PAD, Day 28

Abstract.

Sorta.

So, the month ends just in time to try something different regarding my self-critique. Through march I won't be doing it, this would be the last time for quite a while and all I have to say is...
  • This one is way.too.red.
  • Thumbs up for the lack of obviousness.
  • I kinda likethe composition this time, hah
  • But yeah, too much redness, specially after the grungy shot a couple o'days ago.
And there it is.

That was February for you, ladies and gentlemen.

PAD, Day 27

Rainy night.

And a window.

  • I really liked the colors on this one, almost enough to make me overlook the non-focusing aspect of this. Almost...
  • Couldn't decide whether to give it a dreamier look with softer colors (my first idea) or "harsher", darker colors which made the drops stand out beautifully. I chose the latter somewhat missing the dreaminess I was looking for in the first place.

PAD, Day 26

Fallen road signs pointing to Heaven.

Kinda grungy, uh?

  • Apparently exporting it to a smaller size translates into loss of detail (obviously) and somehow loss of brightness.
  • Probably should've redone it in a brighter shade but that makes it lose "grungyness", less charcoal-y detail to put it some way.

PAD, Day 25

Back road through the rear-view mirror.

Had the colors been brighter, it would've looked like something out of a famous brit movie director picture.

  • Colors can entirely change the feeling, can't they? Not sure I like the colors on this one but part I wanted an over exposed image, part people won't paint their fences/walls/houses/what not on brighter shades.
  • Seriously considering painting fences candy apple red and electric blue by myself but I don't think people would appreciate it much.

PAD; Day 24

Still life. Kinda.

And it's dusty.

  • Trying my hand at vintage-y sepia and not sure, could be sepiaer don't you think?
  • Don't quite like the texture on the background wall but the little vases were hanging from there and I don't think moving them would've been well received.
P.S. Feliz Día de la Bandera

PAD, Day 23

A vintage approach.

  • Not entirely in love with the outcome but have a mean migraine, so that's how it'll stay for now and probably for ever more.

lunes, 22 de febrero de 2010

PAD; Day 22

Greener after rain.

That's my theory.

Also, I want an Holga... (oh, the irony on that one... inside joke, btw)

  • Was trying to do a circular thing with vignettes but didn't really like the outcome.
  • Not so sure about the apparent lack of a subject.
  • Kinda dig the composition, very GR.

PAD, Day 21

Sky up an alley.

And the ground is dark. Very dark.

  • Like the saturated sky, not the black part that much but cutting it out was not an option.
  • Missed a wonderful puffy cloud cuz two girls were walking down the alley and well, you know.
  • Anyway, this was the next best thing...

sábado, 20 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 20

Grass and plants.

Forgot the fancy word for it.

  • I just love how everything looks after rain, specially plants, they seem to irradiate green if that makes any sense.
  • Composition OK, I guess.
  • Focus not on the right thing.
  • Editing could've been better at enhancing the green.

viernes, 19 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 19

Graffiti through rear-view mirror.

Have I told you I love rear-view mirrors? I do. I really do.

  • I think the composition works.
  • Not a big fan of the big black right side, but without it it looked ridiculous.
  • Loved the main subject as well as the background but both could've been better.
  • I like how the main subject pops out, don't you?

jueves, 18 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 18

Decay on rear-view mirror.

I love love LOVE rear-view mirrors. I also like graffiti and just adore urban decay.

  • Kinda like the composition, but am not completely sure about it. Dunno...
  • The tree shadows look like something awful was spilt over the wall, hah.
  • Would've liked the red brighter at the bottom
  • Loved the theme, not so sure about the outcome.

miércoles, 17 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 17

Portrait of a chicken.

A very very inanimate chicken.

  • Today I had the idea of making a disturbing photograph but ended up taking a somewhat crappy image and trying to make it relevant through editing.
  • I have to say I'm kinda un-pleased with the result, it came out OK but not necessarily great and definitely not disturbing, not as I had planeed it, though.
  • So, here it is anyways, enjoy?

martes, 16 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 16

Portrait of a cultured cat.

Out of focus.

  • I've noticed I have a thing for focusness... some people don't seem to care about it as long as the final outcome looks nice, but not me. No, getting something out of focus eats me alive.
  • But, like toddlers, animals don't really leave much room for a second try, so here it is.
  • Not sure about the 'air'.
  • Like the toning.

lunes, 15 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 15

Vintage Fencing Mask.

And it's crooked.

  • Maybe the wall is crooked, the roof looks just fine, no?
  • Amazing detail in the original pic
  • Not sure I like the ultra light bottom, but not much I could do about it w/o PSing it

domingo, 14 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 14

Sun through the door.

So romantic... not.

  • Not sure about the composition.
  • Tried to make it sepia but failed and gave up (I do that a lot lately, it's just a phase).
  • Wanted it warmer but kept getting brighter and fussier.

sábado, 13 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 13

A scarf

Killed the Ceshire Cat to made it (Y)

  • Working with depth of field.
  • Boring result. Boring subject?
  • DoF seems fine, don't even start on the composition...

viernes, 12 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 12

Fashion Pop Art!

Right.

  • Not sure how this would look on a human face, may need more light.
  • Ignore the thingie on the upper corner, please.
  • Hardly made it today, can't really complaint.

jueves, 11 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 11

Cheated.

Crappy photo, crappy editing.

  • Looks "interesting" and you'll never guess what it is, so it's OK

miércoles, 10 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 10

Magenta fire.

From Heaven.

Cuz I'm stuck with my Masters right now, stressing a bit, too. I might quit.

  • Really?

martes, 9 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 09

One of my dogs.

Doesn't look happy, uh? Not a big fan of storms. Yeah, we have one today, too, weee... if only I had school I could miss...

  • Liked the focus on the eye.
  • Background could've been better.
  • Evading slimy pup kisses: not that easy.

lunes, 8 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 08

Portrait.

With a human.

Finally managed to get one.

  • Such an amazing model, reaaally easy to work with.
  • Not so sure about the background, too dark, I think.
  • P.S. It was spur of the moment, we didn't plan it and as a result we just managed with what we had at the time.
  • Considering that I think it came out awesome.
P.S.2 Oh, shht... Almost midnight, didn't realize!

domingo, 7 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 07

Our cat.

I just wanted to share this one. She likes to pretend she hates me and happily eludes my attempts at photographing her. I know the composition is off, but there's just something about this that I liked regardless, so I chose it for today.

  • Contrast.
  • Subject practically in the middle, yet I like it.
P.S. I'm not sure what she was trying to tell me with that look, she was probably just amused at me...

sábado, 6 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 06

Winter shot.

Why? Cuz storms have kept me indoors for most part of this lovely year.

Anyway, love the fact that it looks like a painting... I'm sure painters love it when their work looks like photographs. Yeah.

  • Monotone, yes, but I like it.
  • Love the vibrant blue.
  • My batt died just when I took it, no re-do's.
Over all I think I really like it just because.

viernes, 5 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 05

Astounding hot chocolate courtesy of Kathy's mom (thank you, by the way, it was much needed).

  • Had a few similar shots, all of them quite blurry (they tend to be when you're sneaking pictures while producing a live show) this composition I think works the best, but has room for some improvement.
  • Composition... not my strong point.
  • Could've used warmer tones and better focusing (again, the focusing is due to lack of time).

jueves, 4 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 04

Portrait.

Doesn't quite have the same impact when it's not a living creature, huh?

  • Out of focus
  • Deleted the one I wanted to post by mistake...
  • Composition a little bit off
  • Too "cold"? Color-wise
  • Pose OK, I guess.

miércoles, 3 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 03

I tried to give it a vintagy-polaroidy feeling to it, but it's kinda hard to look at, no? Hurts the eyes a bit?

  • Still no emblem thingie, should work on that.
  • Blurry screens don't work
  • Tinting

martes, 2 de febrero de 2010

PAD, 02

Still with the light theme, not sure this one works (I think it kinda doesn't, the right corner is way too dark)

  • Composition.

lunes, 1 de febrero de 2010

PAD, Day 01

With barely 40 minutes before day officially ends, here's #01.

  • Trying "artsy" post-processing, not really my cup of tea to do what everybody else does, but nice knowing I could do it to a decent degree if needed be (also, this is mostly what people'd want to buy, I suppose, hm...)
  • Forgot the personalized emblem thingy so I'll edit in a few days.
  • Forgot to set it to RAW
Edit: also forgot the reason behind this one... Photography is the art of capturing light, so it just seemed right to make it the theme of my first installment.

BTW, I've been noticing I like the focus to be not on the main subject. Not sure it works.
